Why do I still keep my site live?

I have over 7 years of experience in the programming world, and since the beginning, I have always tried to keep this website live. Sometimes I forget to update or even post anything here, but that’s okay!

Honestly, the reason why I’ve often stopped posting/updating here is because I’ve never felt comfortable writing about code or tech stuff. I’ve never felt confident with this idea. I mean, there are a lot of incredible sites on the internet; maybe mine will be just another URL lost in the web space. As a developer, we usually create a site for two reasons: we’re seeking a new job and need to showcase our knowledge, or we want to add it to a social media bio like Twitter or LinkedIn.

So, why have I been trying to keep it live?

Every year, I come back here and change everything, from the colors to the CMS I use. Why?

I believe the reason is: this is a moment in the year when I set aside a few days to take care of my career and myself. It’s a time to review what I did last year and how much I’ve changed since the last time I tweaked everything.

But thinking about it these days, I realized something: if the problem is my uncomfortable feeling about writing code, why not write about other things? Better yet, why not write about life, my life, my thoughts... about myself?

Then, next year, when I come back (if I stop again), I can see it not as a frustration about “I’m not good enough to write about code”, but more like:

  • I did so many great things this past year!
  • Look at how much I’ve changed since last year!

So, instead of just another dev blog, I can make it a human blog.

So, #take10, let’s try it out again!

Greetings, future Fernando, see you!
